Thanks- really helpful and photos are great. We’re massive butterfly spotters and can recognise many, this source has helped with several we were less familiar with. So many different whites, blues and a range of swallow tails and fritillaries. Amazed at how many there are – we stayed in Neorić and we had plenty to watch. We photographed as many as we could, as it helps to identify them, especially when trying to narrow down which blue we saw.
Great photos! Planning to visit Croatia in 2020, do you think the Plitvice Lakes National Park is a good place for butterfly watching? and any other places in the surrounding of Zagreb good too? Thank you very much 😀
Thanks! In June, July & August almost all Croatia including Plitvice and Zagreb area are a good place for watching. Have a good trip!
Good to know. Thank you!
Hi
Thanks for the very informative page, we have just come back from Istria, where we were pleasantly surprised to see many butterflies about even in late September and this helped me identify some of them. One i’m not sure of though, it looks similar to a Wall, but is slightly different, any ideas what it could be?
Thanks, sorry can’t help without more details and photo. At the Adriatic coast the season lasts at least until the end of October and on islands even more.
Thanks for this helpful page. References for identifying European butterflies are sparse and frustrating elsewhere on the web. Would love it if this page was added to further. Writing this in Croatia where I have been able to name a few with your help.
Thanks!
Thanks for helping me identify the Southern White Admiral. We are in Croatia at the moment and I haven’t seen so many butterflies of different type for ages. Certainly not in England! It has been a delight and I will miss seeing them when we go home.
Glad you find help here. For sure June and July are top months in Croatia for butterflies.
Very impressive photographs but there is an error! The Camberwell beauty is labelled as Amberwell beauty! I’m planning to visit Croatia next year (2020) so I was looking at what I might see flying about.
Thank you for the message and note. It was my mistake. Best regards!
